New cassette from my UK pals Blood Stereo.  Lo-fi musique concrete, field recordings, percussion, electronics, and voice masterfully mixed into a poisonous hobo stew.

Harsh industrial power electronic violence from this NYC group.  "In the red" electronics and guitar, with thick buzzing static with screaming harsh and delayed vocals.

"Psychic driving was a psychiatric procedure in which patients were subjected to a continuously repeated audio message on a looped tape, in order to alter their behaviour. In psychic driving, patients were often exposed to hundreds of thousands of repetitions of a single statement over the course of their treatment. They were also concurrently administered muscular paralytic drugs such as curare in order to subdue them for the purposes of exposure to the looped message(s). The procedure was pioneered by Dr. D. Ewen Cameron, and utilised and funded by the U.S. CIA's MKULTRA program in Canada.
 
The psychic driving procedure was a chronological precursor to Cameron's depatterning, the latter involving massive doses of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) combined with similarly large doses of psychedelic drugs (such as L.S.D.). The intent was to break down the subject's personality — theoretically psychic driving could then be used with some efficacy in establishing a new personality.  In Cameron's depatterning, the ECT would often continue to be administered despite the manifestation of convulsive fits, which were consensually considered to be contraindications to normal and safe ECT procedure. Such biologically and psychologically devastating procedures, adopted internationally by the psychiatric establishment, were largely abolished by the time the CIA was brought before a Senate Hearing (1977) for its involvement and funding of Cameron's experimental activities — as part of the MKULTRA program."

This is a VERY LIMITED exact replica reissue (even using unused cassette labels from the original release!) of Z.O. Voider's cassette PERPENDICULAR GROOVE, Recorded 1985 - 1988 and originally released in a similarly small edition back in 1988 by ZORT.

C-60 of VERY minimal synth tests made after intense holiday readings of the books of COMMANDER X. The new studio has just been set up and the recordings on this tape were from a session I did to get reacquainted with my synthesizers. Unlike every other SS release, there is no tape delay FX used on these recordings..some LIGHT reverb on the B-side from an old 'echo-verb' unit I recently acquired, but other than that it's raw synth.

The A side is a triple synth sample and hold exercise using Dotcom Modular, Yamaha CS-5, and Moog Rogue. The B-side is an ULTRA minimal pulse ambience piece for Moog Rogue and Lafayette Echo-Verb. This side was very influenced by a tape called CHAMBER MUSIC originally released in 1984 by STRENGTH THROUGH JOY. I got the tape quite a few years ago and remember being struck by how minimal it was. I wasn't too fond of it at the time, but I think about it quite a lot and I think it's influenced a lot of my output, especially my more recent recordings. I think of it as ambient music, not 'ambient' as in the genre, but as sounds to surround yourself with while doing something else. Throw this one on and read some COMMANDER X!

Six tracks of of industrial rituals from this mysterious Swedish outfit. Thundering minimal rhythms and dark electronics surround heavily effected voices reciting things we really probably shouldn't be hearing. Seriously disturbing music that should be listened to with caution.

Early Dilloway recordings 1999 - 2001. Tracks originally appeared on 'NON GROWING BACK' CD (American Tapes, edition of 16, 2001), and BOGGS VOL. 1 CASS (Herbst, edition of 35, 2001). Very minimal electronics, tape and voice experiments. All electronic sounds made using a modified heart monitor made for me by NATE YOUNG.

Heavily rhythmic voice, metal, percussion and brass loops resulting in physical and mental damage. I've always been interested in David's loop work as his way of using loops is almost exactly the opposite as mine. Whereas my loops are always very muddy and crude, David's are always very crisp and precise.

CD reissue of the debut vinyl from California sound artist Tom Darksmith. Crude musique concrète made using tapes, voice, records, radio, guitar, drums, objects, domestic and field recordings. Assembled on cassette four track 2008-2009. A disturbing collection of sounds...lots of sounds...unknown sounds...I have no clue what is going on on this record....Tom says there is guitar, drums, etc on this...but I dont hear them...what I hear is: The sound of my neighbor weedwacking, the sound of being zipped into a suitcase then shipped via train, ghost voices roaming in sewers, the sound of riding in a helicopter with mid-grade noise reduction earmuffs on, a shitty metal door being locked on a crew of mumbling idiots...and every now and again...a garbage disposal....this is what I hear....no clue what you will hear. A total mystery of perfectly paced organization of dirt sound...not harsh...not mellow...just dirty, weird, and confusing...and to quote the sleevenotes of the first few QUEEN LPs....No Synthesizers!. Recommended for fans of Yeast Culture, Agog, Joe Colley, Graham Lambkin, Jason Lescalleet, Hands To, etc... 500 copies packaged in black poly jewelcases.

'Back during my Bachelor of Fine Arts, one of my fellow students was a woman who was eventually obsessed with the idea, systems, and eventual remnants of ‘process’. One of her key pieces involved hundreds of raw eggs which she carefully emptied, cracked open, and systematically peeled the delicate membranes from inside of the eggs. She carefully laid out the hundreds of membranes as they assembled in a giant area to the side of the studio. I swear that she didn’t even have some grandiose idea for the membranes as the peeling and assemblage system(s) evolved into something that was simply beyond any eventuality and initial idea for the piling skins of the eviscerated eggs. The deconstruction and conception behind the act of pulling apart the eggs into a vast collection of grimy, translucent membrane piles suggested something so much more than even a final constructed piece. Watching her as she realized that the true crux behind the piece was the process alone was astounding as the membranes were laid to rest to represent an almost sudden and powerful eventuality that acted as a piled testament to ‘process’. The harsh sound works of THE HATERS over artist GX Jupitter-Larsen’s long and established career also powerfully bring to mind the idea of process. Most of THE HATERS’ works are ideologies behind something being destroyed or manipulated; the amplified and sometimes distorted sounds of the processes representing a document that exemplifies the acts carried out upon the objects, machines, or otherwise. The act of recording the processes alone is evidence of an eventuality (to possibly be edited further) in the form of a possible final piece of vinyl, cassette, or CD, but the tendencies of THE HATERS’ material also intend the listener to experience the process of the audio lines as they were primarily constructed in the recording area. There is no doubt that GX appreciates the totemic quality of his personal objects’ physical aftermath, that is sometimes documented with video or photographs, but the powerful beauty of a THE HATERS audio piece is the experience for the listener that acts ALSO as a final document of sound that represent clearly the certain idea and sometimes violent act. THE HATERS’ celebrated early work “In the Shade of Fire” acts a document collection for the listener that also reflects THE HATERS strong textural aesthetic through object manipulation and recording that defines GX’s place in the world of ‘harsh noise’. Listening your way through the material is a studied and defined testament to different representational fragments of heavy sound and source manipulation. The tracks Glsam and Diti are explosive introductory and side concluding / framing pieces that highlight and pronounce the breaking and crashing down of material, all gelled with bass driven strikes whose trails deteriorate into hints of cascading dirty and dark ‘Americanoise’ distortion. Bebas powers through a heavier dynamic with conscious falling apart of source material, but in abstracted waves that suggest the material being rebuilt just to simply fall and crash apart again with a sense of powerful futility. Thuch enhances the textural elements of the explosions and crashing as the sharpness of the strikes are slightly ‘rounded’ at the edges to expose an almost ‘gurgling’ texture that moves and slaps with vicious perplexity. Taisic represents a very early ‘Americanoise’ study of hiss manipulation that is accented with minimalist scraping that bring to mind the force of process on top of the white noise line. Cassas is the album’s meditated example of sharp shot-driven violence; articulated and seemingly layered for optimum cutting and breaking which bring forth sound dynamism from very physical deterioration. Fire 5 is an amazing example of a highly textural ‘wall’ of sound that, to the contemporary fan of gritty and dirty crunch waves, is a primary early example of powerful crackle lines that focus on the inner dynamism of the sound itself. All of the material discussed above is made up of elements of physicality and process, but the tracks Iny 1 and Iny 2 act, for the listener, as the ‘notes’ for the ideology of process and falling apart as they act as a more minimal, subtle, and exacting study of the scraping, scuffing, and hands on work of the artist as he manipulates the deteriorating materials. In essence, Iny 2 is an amazing concluding track that reminds the listener of the core focus and ideology behind THE HATERS’ exemplification of grating sound via concept driven manipulation of tangible sources, the process, the aftermath, and the eventual recording that reflects all of the above sound qualities.'

For the past few years, Wyatt Howland aka SKIN GRAFT has been gravedigging deep into the most dismal and filthy areas of sound. DRUG ADDICT is one of the most sickening releases I have ever heard...it bring upon such horrible visuals I cannot help my face from squinting and frowning in disgust every time I listen. A stream of filthy water runs near a sickened drug addict shivering in a sewer. Disgusting. Originally released in a limited edition by Wagon, this reissue includes extended mixes of both sides!

Reissue of one of my favorite very limited GODS OF TUNDRA cassettes. Insane recording by THE HAUNTING of very crude tape manipulation feedback and guitar...Makes me think of a bedroom scum version of FUSHITSUSHA's THE CAUTION APPEARS...total blast the volume on a sunny day dark guitar shit! The flip side is a continuation of the same session just after Tara left to go throw up... transforming the HAUNTING into FAILING LIGHTS. This side is more subdued haunted creaking rumble electronics, and barely controlled feedback. A total shit-fi Michigan classic.

CD version of of the self released/self-titled LP by Cleveland's Emeralds recorded Aug-Sept 2008.  Proper follow up to their debut LP 'Solar Bridge',  'EMERALDS' takes the thick drone sound of that LP into an even more abstract and strange place.  Visual music that lifts the listener up and transports them through tubes of sound occasionally to be swept into the opposite direction by an unexpected entrance into another world entirely.  An intense journey that drops you off in a place just beyond death.

The Nevari Butchers nomadic member delivers 2 sides of humming, flickering, and pummelling minimalism. A side sounds like a copy machine for 15 min (it's not) ...B-side sounds like one of the MAD MEN fell asleep with his head on a synth and Christina Hendricks is walking around cleaning up the office...then the entire room gets sucked down the staircase very slowly step by step (it might even be that).

Ohio synth duo's second release. Slow moving organ and synth tones pulling you into a dark but comfortable stormcloud zone reminiscent of Messiaen's organ works and early Klaus Schultze.
